About Worcester Dragon Boat Festival


THE DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL
The 2019 Worcester Dragon Boat Festival is back and better than ever! This family-friendly event includes dragon boat races, cultural performances, vendors, food, music, activities and more at DCR Regatta Point and Lake Quinsigamond on September 21. This annual festival is an opportunity to celebrate the diverse cultures in Worcester County and come together as a community to enjoy all the festival has to offer. Last year's event brought the community and 40 teams together to experience Worcester's very own, Dragon Boat Festival. Dragon boat racing is great for businesses looking for team building exercises, family, friends and community groups looking for a good time! Thank you to our sponsors and partners: Fallon Health, Discover Central Mass, The Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, Atlas Distributing, Coghlin Companies and the Worcester Railers HC. Portion of proceeds will benefit the United Way of Central Mass.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO RACE?
To race in the Dragon Boat races, you must be at least 15 years old.

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE AND WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Details will be provided as race date gets closer. Arrival time will depend on race heats.

DO I NEED EXPERIENCE TO PARTICIPATE?
No experience necessary. Includes training session the days prior to the race.

CAN SPECTATORS COME WATCH?
The festival is free and open to the public.
Please note DCR Regatta Point does charge a parking fee of $8-MA vehicle $10-non-MA vehicle .

CAN I BRING MY OWN COOLER WITH FOOD AND DRINK?
Yes, DCR Regatta Point and Lake Quinsigamond has many areas for picnicking. Bring lots of water too. Food may be available to purchase as well.

CAN I BRING ALCOHOL TO THE PARK?
No, you cannot bring alcohol to the park. A beer garden will be open on event day for those over 21.

CAN I BRING A TENT FOR SHADE?
Yes, 10x10 are allowed, nothing larger, please.
Larger tents will require a permit that must be approved prior to the event.

Race


THE DRAGON BOAT RACE
Join us for the 3rd annual Worcester Dragon Boat Festival. This year we welcome teams in three divisions on a 200 meter course on Lake Quinsigamond (please note: race director reserves the right to change team divisions without notice). NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Boats, PFDs, practices and all paddle equipment is all included in the boat price. Each boat holds 22 people, including one professional steer person. Teams consist of 21 members: 20 paddlers and one drummer who will sit at the front and keep everyone paddling together. Each team will be offered a one hour practice in the days leading up to the event.

Division 1: Competitive Dragon Boat Club Team
A competitive club team is defined as any crew that regularly practices and races together, and meets the IDBF definition as a club. All members of the club must reside close enough to practice regularly with the club and hold membership with the club for at least six months prior to the event. ACS teams may have their own heat with in this division.

Division 2: Dragon Boat Club Team
A club team is defined as members having practiced more than one hour in a dragon boat but have been together for less than 6 months and does not qualify for the IDBF definition as a club.

Division 3: Community Team
Teams that are organized just for this festival do not meet the IDBF definition of club standards, and will only practice for the one hour offered as part of the 2019 Worcester Dragon Boat Festival.
