About 2019 Best of River Valley Preps

Join the Times Record as we celebrate and honor the accomplishments of the 2018-2019 All-Star high school student athletes at the annual Best of River Valley Preps Awards.

Due to the flooding in the River Valley region, the event has been postponed until Tuesday, June 11. All other details, at this time, remain the same.

The Best of River Valley Preps awards banquet is the Times Record's way of joining the community to honor thousands of outstanding high school athletes, coaches and fans who allow us to share their stories, performances and passions. Presented by the Times Record and sponsored by leaders in business, the event honors the top performers across 15 sports from Sebastian, Logan, Crawford and Scott Counties in Arkansas and Le Flore and Sequoyah Counties in Oklahoma. Awards will be presented to the Outstanding Player of the Year in each sport, as well as Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, and Coach of the Year. There will also be awards for athletes in each of the 15 sports. Best of River Valley Preps athletes are invited to attend for free, and the event is open to family, friends and the general public.

We are proud to welcome a three-time Olympic Gold Medalist and three- time World Champion Gymnast, Gabby Douglas, as our featured special guest. Gabby will be live in Fort Smith for a question and answer session about lessons she's learned and memories she's made during her career.

Doors open at 6 pm. Event starts at 6:30 pm. General admission tickets may be purchased for $55 or a table of 10 for $500. General admission ticket includes dinner, awards ceremony and a presentation by guest speaker. General admission seating is first-come, first-served in proximity to speaker. Seating is limited. Special Guest

Gabby Douglas

Three Time Gold Medalist and Two Time World Champion Gymnast
With three Olympic Gold medals and two World Championship medals under her belt, Gabby Douglas has been the most loved gymnast of this decade. Gabby burst into the hearts and minds of mainstream America in 2012 during the London Olympic Games when she became the first African-American woman to win an Olympic Gold medal in the All-Around Individual event. Since then, Gabby has been one of the most influential female athletes in the world and is continuously at the center of pop culture.

When Gabby was only 16 years old, she was selected to represent America as a member of the Olympic Women's Gymnastics team to compete in the 2012 Summer Olympics. It was in London where Gabby made her mark by winning the Gold medal in both the Team event and most notably, the All-Around Individual event. Gabby became the first American gymnast to win Gold in both the All-Around Individual and Team competitions at the same Olympics.
After the London Games, Gabby's stardom took off and she became a teen sensation. She made appearances on The Tonight Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show and was named to Barbara Walters' list as one of the "10 Most Fascinating People of 2012." In support of President Barack Obama, she led the Pledge of Allegiance at the 2012 Democratic National Convention, was nominated for an ESPY Award, and was named the 2012 Associated Press "Female Athlete of the Year."

After the London Olympics, Gabby knew she had more to give on the gymnastics floor and decided to do the near impossible - go for another Gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. After overcoming the odds, Gabby successfully made her second Olympic gymnastics team and represented her country once again in the Olympics. There, Gabby won her third Olympic Gold medal in the Team competition and is the only All-Around Olympic Gold medal gymnast, in US history, to return to a second Olympics.
