About Rhode Island All-State High School Sports Awards

Join the Providence Journal as we celebrate and honor the accomplishments of the 2016-2017 All-State high school student athletes at the second annual Rhode Island All-State High School Sports Awards. This awards banquet is the Providence Journal's way of saying thank you to the thousands of outstanding high school athletes, coaches, and fans who allow us to share their stories, performances and passions. Sponsored by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and National Grid, the event honors the top performers from every high school in 29 sports. Awards will be presented to the Outstanding Player of the Year in each sport, as well as Coach of the Year. All-State athletes are invited to attend for free and the event is open to family, friends and the general public.

We are proud to welcome baseball legend David Ortiz as our featured special guest. Ortiz will be live in Providence for a question and answer session about lessons he's learned and memories he's made during his career.

Doors open at 6:00pm. Event starts at 6:30pm. General admission tickets may be purchased for $50 per person. General admission ticket includes dinner, awards ceremony, and presentation by Big Papi. General admission seating is first come, first served in proximity to speaker. Seating is limited.

Special Guest

David Ortiz

Baseball Legend
A 10-time All-Star, David Ortiz retired as one of the most prolific offensive players in Red Sox history. In 19 Major League seasons, his Hall of Fame resume includes over 500 home runs and three World Series titles, accomplishments matched only by Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson. Loved by fans and teammates, and admired by opponents, Ortiz helped Boston end its 86-year championship drought in 2004, won again in 2007, and took home the World Series MVP in 2013. Ortiz began his career with the Minnesota Twins, who released him in 2002. Five weeks later, he signed with the Red Sox and went on to become one of the city's most popular athletes of all-time. Enjoying one of his most productive seasons at the age of 40, Ortiz will be immortalized alongside the likes of Bobby Orr, Ted Williams, Larry Bird and Tom Brady. But there is only one Big Papi.
